The Words

The word selection in Word Families was strictly my own.  A few words were omitted from the original list, due to the sensitivity of the words.  These words include: fag (which is slang for cigarette), gay (meaning happy), rape, cigar, rum.  Beer was changed to "root beer" and ale was changed to "ginger ale," but in some circumstances was shortened to beer and ale.

A suffix had to have at least six words in its grouping to be included in Word Families.  Although there are 89 Word Families, some families were omitted due to publishing pressure.
